Semi-Poker

Last updated on August 7th, 2006

"Semi-Poker" is the name coined by me for a chatroom game. I called it this because of the lack of suits (Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, Spades). The game works similar to normal poker, except their is an absence of suits for the cards and there is one hand per round.

How to Play

One person is chosen to start each round and keep track of the hands. When ready, this person says "Round 1" or something like that and everyone types in (deal). This will give you a random set of 5 "cards", which makes up your hand. Cards come in the same denominations as normal cards, though some in shortened form (see below). Using the table below, the winner is chosen and Round 2 starts. Once again, have the person say "Round 2", and go on from there. You may have only one hand per round.

The Cards

From highest card (A) to lowest (2).

For a Straight (see Hands) or for determining the high card (see High Cards), the cards go in the sequence shown above; so a straight could compose of 8, 9, 10, J, and Q.

High Cards

High card refers to which cards are higher then others (see Cards). When one card is higher then another, the high card naturally wins. This is used when two or more players have the same type of hand (for example, one pair) but do not have an exactly the same hand completely. Here is how to determine the winner if two or more players have the same type of hand.
